Here is my rough solution: Inventory is kept in the Database - be it MySQL, Access, doesn't matter Will the database need the functionality of loading the inventory of products? This could be driven by an Excel spreadsheet The UI can be created in either MS Access or MS Excel. The data link would be created between the inventory and the UI. Any operation on the database would be recorded with the date/time and user name. Additional rules can be created - e.g. your mentioned 'reorder stock alert', 'maximum discount exceeded alert' and so on.
