Take an understanding of a argument structure (soundness, cogency and fallacies), and apply that understanding to arguments embedded in a longer passage. You will need to analyze a topic that will be provided. You will use the techniques provided to you as the basis for writing a 3 to 4 page essay (double spaced) in which you assess this argument for soundness and cogency. You will be provided with a detailed example of extended argument analysis. Here are some of types of fallacies you may have to identify: - Hasty Generalization, False Cause, Slippery Slope, Red Herring, Straw Person, False Dichotomy, Faulty Analogy, Ad Hominem (both Circumstantial and Abusive), Poisoning the Well, Appeal to Emotion and Appeal to Threat. Appeal to Ignorance, Begging the Question, Equivocation. Best pitch for this project wins.
