I want to build a breathalyzer vending machine. See additional details for full summary. It is really more of putting the puzzle together, should not be very hard or take very long. ## Deliverables I am entering the business of breathalyzer vending machines placed in bars. The revenue streamed is split with the bar, the customers love it. To keep costs down I want to build my own breathalyzer vending machine, as those on the market with a LCD cost around $1,500. A good indicator of what I want can be found [Here from AK Solutions][1], look near the bottom of the page for the AL4000 breathalyzer. The AL4000 is simple. It has a credit card reader [(the eport from USA Technologies)][2], a fuel cell sensor (seen below on the AL4000 on the same page), and a small screen to display results. The problem is the small screen. What I want designed is almost the same thing, but one that utilizes an at least 12 inch or larger LCD screen and preferably a touch screen. It is possible that no screen is need, only lights and sounds as seen on the Alcobuddy, [Here][3], it is shown with and without an LCD. My goal is to build a breathalyzer with a [3M MicroTouch System, SCT3250EX][4] If a touch screen is too complicated, that is okay, but it is very much preferred. The product is composed of a steel housing roughly 17 x 20 inches, 7 inches deep. The housing contains the LCD, a dual bill acceptor/credit card reader, the fuel cell alcohol sensor (like the one from AK solutions), speakers to give audio cues, and possibly a computer to run the LCD and a controller to the sync the parts (I think, I don't know much about all this), and some kind of way to plug it into the wall. What I need to know is a few different ways to connect all these parts together, what would be the most durable, the least expensive, etc. And then step by step instructions to build, connect, load, or whatever to get this done. The test it runs looks something like this... Machine is running ads cab companies and DUI Lawyers - while flashing "Touch to Start" at the bottom of the screen Customer touches screen - screen reads "This machine is for entertainment purposes only. Wait ten minutes after your last drink or cigarette for most accurate results." And a fight bell rings (Ding Ding Ding) Machine asks for money with an animation showing bills being inserted and a credit card being swiped. (Machine says "Please insert money or swipe card") Customer swipes credit card (Quick Sale Retail - No receipts) or inserts $2 dollars (Machine says "Thank you") Machine displays animation of grabbing straws and reads "Get Ready!" Simultaneously there is a 10 second count down. (It is audible for the last 5 seconds) The machine reads Blow! with accompanying graphics, noise (a whooshing sound). The customer blows through the straw into the sensor (must blow for 3 seconds I believe). Gives Result - says something or makes noise, possibly depending on level reached, above or below .08, but DOES NOT MAKE RECCOMENDATIONS ON DRIVING! Machine reads and Says Come Back Soon! The machine reverts back to advertising cab companies, bar specials, and saying that it is in fact a breathalyzer, making noise once in a while, flashing lights etc to get attention, but without being obnoxious. **I need to be able to change ads in and out. I would like to be able to change the animations and sounds as well. Removable storage is okay.** Obviously a non touch screen could do just as well, but I like the "cool" factor of the touch screen. Plus I was hoping it would be possible to have buttons that bring up more information about advertisers. Since I know nothing about these things I thought it might be possible to buy a very small PC (the Zotac on newegg for $160), a 3M screen and controller (on [login to view URL]), a dual bill acceptor/credit card processor, and the blood alcohol sensor from AK solutions, and then stuff them all in a box, connect them together and let it run on powerpoint. Would it be possible to run most of this on a Power Point slide, or do I need software written? Can it be customizable so I can change animation and audio tracks at different points? Can I design the graphics? What kind of hardware and software do I need? Can you make a step by step instruction manual of how to put this together? Would a non-touch screen be much less complicated? If the touch screen is not cost effective I could be happy with just adding a nice 12 inch LCD the AL4000 setup.
