Perl module Apache::HTTunnel uses File::FDkeeper and File::FDpasser and is said to run stable on 32 bit but does not run on 64 bit.

To do:

1. Verify that HTTunnel runs stable on 32 bit. Modify it to be stable/rock-solid on 32 bit if needed.

2. Port HTTunnel to 64 bit (Debain Squeeze) and make it rock-solid there, too.

There should be no separate version for 64 bit. Same files should run on 32 bit and 64 bit - if possible.

Result should be re-published under the same license as original (will be given to original author).

It should be no rocket-science to port this to 64 bit. It seems as if there is something wrong with the data types (sizes) that are used and are incompatible with 64 bit.

Note:

1) Running "make test" is not enough as it may run well but HTTunnel does not work. Intense verification with "HTTdotNET" is required.

2) Also short but precise documentation of HTTunnel protocol should be delivered. Should contain enough documentation to write alternative clients. (Command, description, payload layout/arguments, return codes.)

(It is a very simple protocol.)
