Import Export Utility Outlook ??" Outlook Express ??" Act ??" Goldmine ??" Text file mapping The utility must be a standalone application that Exports to a delimited file. The output fields must match for each application. Only the current open record on the users screen will be exported. If there is no open record the application will display an error message and exit. The import utility will load this delimited file into the selected application. An Ini file will determine the application that the data is exported from and imported to. So, when run with a record open in Act, the user activates the application and the delimited file is created. The same thing would happen for Outlook etc. The fields in the delimited file would always be the same. Once the delimited file is created the when import utility is activated it would read the delimited file and import it into the selected Contact Manager. The utility would not automatically transfer the data from one application to another. The user would have to activate the second program to do this. Also, a utility is needed to read a text file, that creates the same delimited file. In the text file, each line would contain a field. All that would be necessary is to specify a start position to capture the data from. For instance if the line contained Name: Joe J Jones The user could enter start position 6 and the Joe J Jones would be entered into the delimited file. If the delimited file also has (and I am sure it will) have a position for First Name, Middle Initial and Last Name it would place the data in the appropriate fields as well. This poriton must be user friendly to use. With this capability the text import could read a text file when activated and place it in a format that the import utility could use.
