I am creating a website for a new courier business. Basically, I have the website built but I would like someone to build me a system that I can incorporate into it. It will be run from a linux based server so I'm thinking it should use PHP or even better ajax for a really smooth interface. What I am looking for is for my customers to be able to input an origin address, destination address, dimensions in ft and inches, and approximate weight. The software will then calculate the distance in miles between my physical location, the origin, the destination, and then back to my location. It will then calculate a price based on that mileage or display a flat minimum. If the dimensions exceed a preset limit it would need to alert the customer that we cannot carry items that large. After it calculates a price it should give the customer a unique quote number and have that number along with all the other previous information stored in a mySQL database that can then be accessed through a simple back end page that displays the quote so we can pull it up later. I am thinking that the best way to calculate the mileage would be to use google maps.

I have already done something similar to this for a UK company called [login to view URL] for their same day delivery that measures the distance between the origin and the end destination. I know I can rework it into ft and inches and lbs. I don't see why I can't put two additional points in the distance calculator. This was written in PHP and has MySQL. It does use a google api to calculate the distance. A version of the code is available to be tested here [login to view URL] What I need from you to start is: 1. Do you or would you like to charge a different price whilst empty? 2. Is the weight and size a determining factor of price? 3. Format you want the quote number.

Hi, I can do this job for you. But basically calculating the mileage is not a good idea because google map can show various route to choose from and if there is error in route then we can not calculate the exact price. Instead we can set a standard ourself like minimum 10-30 miles or 30-50 miles and so on so that our system wont fail in any case. Say some courier may be using aircargo and some normal transportation, have you thought about this. Lets have a discussion on these topics too before awarding the project. Thanks Sarfaraz
