I need a custom ISO file of a configured Knoppix install that I can burn to a CD and drop onto new systems, esentially turning them into dumb termials. NON Linux savvy people will be using these dumb terminals so hence the tweaking. Consider your basic Windows educated person will be using this terminal for open office, emails, surfing the internet, dreamweaver, photoshopping, etc. Basic office stuff, nothing custom - almost everything we run is web based. You will have to configure Knoppix to turn off the ability to have 4 desktops (where did my desktop go! everything closed! ahh) to changing the language (##fileserver - What the....I dont speak german!) and basic tweaks to improve the speed (turning off animations, etc). ## Deliverables Rent A Coder requirements notice: As originally posted, this bid request does not have complete details. Should a dispute arise and this project go into arbitration "as is", the contract's vagueness might cause it to be interpreted against you, even though you were acting in good-faith. So for your protection, if you are interested in this project, please work-out and document the requirements onsite. This is a very simple project. What I need is a customized Knoppix ISO file. Basically, we need to be able to drop a CD into a computer and the rest is automated. Knoppix already does this but I need a BIT of tweaking. Upon insertion, the CD should boot Knoppix from the CD (kind of like a failsafe - if the CD is not there, it loads it from the hard drive, if the CD is there then run the "clean" copy from the CD) and query if it should install the custom Knoppix on the hard drive. If nothing is selevted for 30 seconds or so, then just run it off of the CD and do not install Knoppix. The Knoppix install needs to be configured to allow for basic office operations. It needs to have these shortcuts on the desktop. An Internet browser (Firefox and Konq), Open Office, Thunderbird, the equivalant of Network Neighborhood, A My Computer Shortcut, Photoshop (GIMP), Dreamweaver (Nvu) and Windows Media Player (VLC). Foobar2000 would be helpful as well. Please make sure you have applied the latest system patches as well. If there are any other software suggestions that you think should be there, let me know. Keep in mind that most people who use this will NOT be linux savvy but will know how to use a Windows machine. Therefore, we need to strip down the ability to modify or mess things up and because this will be running mostly on P3 machines, speed things up a bit by removing needless animations, etc. We do not need 4 desktops, each machine will likely have dual monitors so multiple monitor support needs to default to on. People do not need to be able to change languages, etc. Basically assume the average user will be using this so make it as EASY AS POSSIBLE for them to access things and as HARD AS POSSIBLE for them to change things in such a way that they break the system. All of the "active" files will be stored on a central network server, so consider these machines essentially dumb terminals that will need a user to log on to in order to start working in their unique file folder. They will be logging into a Windows 2003 file server and it should automatically connect them to their network folder upon login and place a shortcut to their "H drive" on their desktop. I hope that is a good enough description. I welcome any additional input but somebody with a strong linux knowledge should be able to hammer this out pretty quick. Lastly, try to address some method of updating and patching. I should be able to easily add to the ISO file and drop in newer applications. 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform CD-ROM :) Linux
