Ajax Auto Refresh With MySQL

I want the following ajax spy code:

to be integrated with MySQL.
Right now the script gets its input from a static <li>. I want a version of this script that gets the information from a MySQL database, and that if I add a new entry to the MySQL database it will update the ajax display.
The code would take the javascript from the demo and then setting it up to work with PHP code that you'd write that'd pull entries from a database.
