Coldfusion/SQL Locking

I am currently building a small application using coldfusion and sql server. I have got the application working fine except for the issue of database concurrency. I am unsure as to how to implement a solution whereby only one user at a time can update a record held in the database. I have been told the way to do this is to use a locking table that stores the users variable name, the record id that they are currently working on, and a field that says lock. Any other user trying to access this record will be told that its locked and that they should come back later. Upon completion of the update, the users lock is revoked and another user can now update the record. What I am after is some source code that I can either copy and paste, or follow through and modify. I am quite new to sql and coldfusion, so any example would have to be quite detailed. I? am willing to pay for this, but? sensible offers only please as this is a? small/personal project.?
