I need to monitor if a screen is on or off by collecting the light emitting out of the back of the LCD panel. I need to use this information to determine if there is enough light to indicate if the screen is on or just telling me that its off if the light reading is below a specific value "which i can determine". I want to then integrate this to a central cloud service where i can add multiple screen monitors and keep track of their state. I am currently using an Arduino Uno with Wiznet 5100 ethernet shield. I would also like to add on relay functionality to the Exosite cloud. In a nutshell i need to see all my LCD screens on/off status in one browser page for monitoring purposes and have switches next to each screen linked to relays to turn screens on/off and the respective dashboard light will indicate the exact status.

Hi, Have a Great Day. I can help you. As you proposed that we can sense the Light coming out from back of LCD to detect the LCD status. I will propose different method. We can sense the current flowing through the relay. when Relay is energized (LCD is switched on), the sensor will sense the flow of current and indicate the status of LCD. This is little costly as compared to the light sensing. Any ways i am flexible with any choice, Remaining stuff is OK. Please feel free to contact. Best Regards, Shahbaz.

Hi! I just read your project description and found it to be pretty interesting. Your project has two parts in it, first being sensing whether the LCDs are on or off, which can be done using an LDR, as you suggested, reading light value behind the LCD screen. This is pretty easy and wouldn't take much time. The second is connecting to a cloud server, and controlling everything from a browser. In general sending data to a cloud server is pretty easy and many services exist for it, however receiving data requires sockets. It's slightly more work, but certainly doable. One thing you haven't mentioned is whether you would like to make your own web server (a home PC, or a raspberry pi), or use one from the internet. Nimbits is a good service if you install it at a home server to which the arduino connects, while Nearbus is an excellent service to control an Arduino directly from the cloud, with no intervening computer. There are also other services like thingSpeak, temboo, etc. I would select the best service relative to your use and work on it. I have sufficient experience with electronics, including Arduino along with other microcontrollers. I am also a schematic design and PCB layout specialist, integrating all the necessary skills required to undertake your project. I am ready to start asap and will deliver within 2 - 4 days, including circuit design, PCB design if you need it, Arduino coding and testing, and cloud application coding. With warm regards, Pranav

Hello, For sure it is possible to monitor the screens but wouldn't be better just to make a windows application that monitors that and sits in the tray? because probably each lcd will have to be modified to put a lightsensor. Or how about just monitoring the outlet? Also is Exosite needed just for the logging and results? I don't know that cloud but I guess it is simple to use.

I know how to program on arduino board, then I'm an embedded system developer, have more than 5 years experience. For your project, how many units you should integrated together, what should I do, schematic design? firmware coding? make board? or everything, its' hard to estimate the workload, so we should discuss more details. Thank.

I have good experience in embedded systems and made alot of projects like: Project: Security System. Tools: 2 AVR microcontrollers, EEPROM, DC motor, Keypad, and LCD. Objective: allowing user to enter password on keypad and compare it with saved passwords on EEPROM, if true used DC motor to open a door for 30 seconds then close it, if wrong password for 3 times then a buzzer is on and can be terminated only by the admin whose PC is connected to second microcontroller using UART, and the admin can also change, add, remove passwords. • Graduation project "Digital wireless scope with touchscreen LCD" Tools: PIC microcontroller, a touchscreen LCD and Wireless modules. Objective: displaying a wireless electrical signal on the LCD and using the touchscreen ability to edit display settings and preferences. • Third year project "Electronic voting system" Tools: PIC microcontroller, a LCD, a Keypad and an EEPROM. Objective: allowing users to choose a candidate number using a keypad and confirm it then save this result in the EEPROM. After that the device can be interfaced with any PC to save the data and calculate the winner candidate.

Hey :) I'm focused on Arduino for 2 years, I've made a lot of projects for my own and the last one is focused on Wiznet 5100 - I made a webpage, where I can switch for example my TV or any other electronic device. It's integrated with my Android app, so I can switch on/off with my mobile phone. Also a half year ago I made my robot with some functions. One of them is controlling the power of lights depending of power of the another source of light (for example - the sun, outside).
