In image segmentation if the optimized gray scale threshold value is chosen randomly then it can be any value in between 0 to 255 and the chosen threshold value may not be suitable for segmentation and also, in this process time required for this segmentation process may not be acceptable for most practical applications. Hence, optimized threshold value is chosen from the image histogram which is basically the pixel distribution in different gray level. Kapur's Entropy function based image segmentation in the proposed paper is an optimization based probabilistic approach which chose optimized threshold value by maximizing the total entropy of the digital image using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm.
