We send many print jobs to a local print using InDesign Templates.
Right now when we send files to print, we name them with the clients name, and the quantity of prints needed, along with the size. We print stickers, so we might say Becky_2inchRounds_10Sheets. The photoshop file is named as such. When we place it into the Indesign template the template we have opened is either named generically (for instance, "2inchrounds") or if we have done a merge, then it is called 'untitled'
When I pick up the jobs at the print shop I cannot tell who's order is what. I thought maybe having the title name printed vertically along the side of the sheet would help. I found the way to do 'Text Variables > Insert Text > File Name which is great, but this only works if the file is already titled.
Looking for a script or work around this so that the files can be named in a quick way on the fly just before going to print, and grab the name of the 'placed' file. Or another solution if you have one!! Our processes around this need help. And as we get busier it is getting tougher.
