Hello,
I am a retired teacher with twenty-five years of classroom experience. I recently submitted a children's book about Amelia Earhart and have been given the promise of more freelance project to be sent my way. I will paste a few of the pages to this post.
I hope to hear from you...

"Now Amelia, I have a wonderful story to tell you about your great, great, Great, GREAT AUNT AMELIA EARHART."
"James Ferocious, do you mean the aunt mommy named me after? The lady who was an airplane pilot?"
"Yes, that very same aunt. Did you know Amelia Earhart also had a dog named James Ferocious? Your mom named me after him!"
"Silly mom, I think she wishes she lived in the old days!"
"Miss Amelia, there are some very good stories from the old days. Let me tell you this story about your Great Aunt AMELIA ."
"OK, I'll be quiet and listen. I am all ears."

James Ferocious spins around three times and curls up on the couch where Miss Amelia is sitting. He takes a deep breath and then begins......
"AMELIA EARHART was born July 24, 1897 in the very same state you now live."
"You mean Kansas?"
"Yes, Miss Amelia.... Kansas. She had a little sister named Muriel who could not pronounce her name properly, so she called her sister Amelia "Meelie" instead. The sisters were very clever and had imaginary friends named Laura and Ringa. They went on many adventures with them."

Miss Amelia looked questioningly at James Ferocious and then asked, "James Ferocious, are you telling me my great, great, Great, GREAT AUNT AMELIA EARHART had a pretend friend just like me? You know I call my friend Suzzie don't you?"
"It seems like you have a lot in common with your AUNT AMELIA. Did you know she was also a tomboy? That is something else you two have in common. She did not like dressing up and having tea parties. She didn't like dolls either. Instead she had a toy donkey named Tonks. She even built a roller coaster in her own back yard! She made it when she was only seven years old!"

"Anyway, your AUNTAMELIA took her very first airplane ride when she was 23 years old. She paid only one dollar for a ten-minute ride. This ride changed her life forever."
"How did it change her life James Ferocious? How?"
"Well silly, she fell in love with airplanes and flying! "

"You see Miss Amelia, after that ten-minute ride, she became a nurse's aid to wounded soldiers returning from The First World War. Many of the soldiers were pilots! She loved to hear their flying stories and decided to take flying lessons herself."

Your AUNT AMELIA EARHART was pretty awesome because most ladies didn't wear pants back then. So wearing pants and flying an airplane really raised some eyebrows. In other words, her decision to take flying lessons, and then later buy an airplane of her own, really got the attention of a lot of people!"

"My goodness James Ferocious, my great, great, Great, GREAT AUNT AMELIA EARHART was ahead of her time! She was really a strong and brave woman."
