This job is to create queries/reports that tells us response rates from advertisements we run.
We have a table in MS Access. It contains one of about ten different types of text, e.g. ABC1, XYZ, FGR4, etc.
This text is the code for the magazine someone read, who then responded to our advertisement.
For example, if the person/record responded from magazine ABC1, we put that in this column in the table. It's like a code that tells us which magazine they responded from.
This is all in one column.
We want to create a query that tells us how many of 'ABC1', or 'XYZ' are in that particular column. For example there might be 400 records in the table in total - 30 of those are ABC1, 310 are XYZ, and 12 are FGR4 etc.
This therefore tells us how many responses we got from each magazine.
Once that is complete, we also have another table that we want to link to this.
That data will have two columns.
The magazine code, e.g. ABC1, and the total number of people the magazine went to.
So the first column would have 'ABC1' - the second column might say '50,000' (the number of people that received magazine ABC1).
The next record might say 'XYZ' and the corresponding number (in the second column) would say '18,500' - the number of people that received magazine XYZ.
Finally, then the final report will show this:
Magazine name - number of people mailed with that magazine - number of responses - percentage % response rate.
At the very bottom of the report we will also have a sum of all figures - total number of magazines mailed, total reponses, total % response.
