Consider any organisation you have worked in before, are currently working for or an organisation that you are familiar with and would like to work for in future.
On the basis of your work experience and any information available to you, identify TWO HRM functional areas that you believe to be underperforming.
The functional areas could include Communication, Employee motivation, Employee relations, Change management, Employee Training and Development, Employee Employment practices such as pay and reward. Contracts, terms and conditions. You may also consider any other related HRM functions.
On the basis of your report.
1. Identify the ways in which you consider the TWO functions to be underperforming. Your answer should give a brief explanation of how the functions operate within the organisation, how they are applied and what the outcomes for the business are because they are underperforming, for example, high turnover.
2. Evaluate why you consider it as being an underperforming practice in comparison to effective practices in this area. Your answer should use appropriate HRM theories and models to support your arguments.
3. Analyse how chosen HRM practices can be improved within your chosen company. Your answer should refer to examples of good practice that you have researched within other comparable organisations, for example, good HRM practice in this area within other retail companies which are based in the UK or internationally.
4. Provide appropriate recommendations to the Director of the chosen organisation as to how those HRM practices could be improved and what the benefits would be to the company by improving them.
Your report should be based upon your research of the chosen organisation. You must reference where your source of information came from, e.g. the company’s website, staff handbook etc. Furthermore, your arguments should be supported with examples from other businesses within the sector, academic quotes and any other relevant information.
