  Guys listen to CH he is really telling the ugly truth about freelancer
  I used this shameful site for more than 9 years. It was great at first but after that the staff of freelancer started to look for ways to rip me off and not pay me although I finished all projects and delivered all materials in time. In the very rare times they had to pay me it took them several months to fulfill it and even yet they managed to deduct numerous fees. They owe me over $2700 and put me through hell despite the great history I had with clients. Those scammers never appreciate loyalty and will destroy you emotionally before financially. It was indeed a nightmare and living hell working with such company but after I discovered 99designs and Design crowd I never looked back and never been happier.

     Carmelo, yes it is and indian website and they help a lot the indian and chinese freelancers. Have you ever noticed Indian and Chinese people have over 500 positive comments plus 100% efectivity? but when you watch their earnings it is supposed they work for pennys, so the Indian and chinese reputation is fake.

     With respect Carmelo M, there are many Indian freelancers on this platform because of the simple fact that India is one of the countries with most IT people.
     
     Though you are right in your place when you said there are many newbie designers in this platform. But I guess you only noticed the Indian flag but not others.
     
     For a simple question like this you could simply navigate the site and check if the Freelancer company is based in India or not: https://www.freelancer.com/about

  I sent the following message to Andy E. who is a Success Manager at Freelancer, and hopefully he will be reasonable and solve my problem.
  
  Hi Andy,
  I hope you are doing well.
  Few days ago, my account changed to “Limited” and I got a notification that I need to verify my identity which in concept, I do not have a problem with. But when I checked the Verification Center, I got shocked by the verification requirements! I find it that the required information infringement my privacy by asking for irrelevant private information that has, in my opinion, nothing to do with our or the platform safety and security as I was told!

     Eduardo O. You are totally wrong! When I was notified few days ago, I NEVER asked or attempted to withdraw my money from my account!
     
     In fact, since I opened my account in 2016, I never even once did withdraw my money from my account!

     In March 2018 it was reported that Freelancer is facing another complaint with the OAIC. Claiming damages over $60,000 a complainant from the European Union alleges Freelancer's conduct in regard to privacy is in violation of Australian and European privacy legislation alike, a fact that would affect all of Freelancer's European customers, according to the complaint. Freelancer has not commented on the allegation.

  Dear Freelancers,
  Please note that I decided to leave this platform, Freelancer.com, after they changed their stupid policy to infringement our privacy by asking for irrelevant private information for no apparent or logical reason, all under the cover of their new “Verification Requirement”.
  
  Why in hell would Freelancer.com need the following information:
  1. A scanned copy of a currently valid government issued ID, driver's license or passport which includes your photo, signature, name and date of birth.
  2. A scanned document as proof of residential address such as your bank statement (less than 3 months old), utility bill (less than 3 months old) or tax assessment (less than 12 months old) which includes your name and your current address.
  3. A photo of the user holding a verification code displayed below in one hand and a user ID clearly visible in your other hand.

     Yqo .. yes the only party that can be accused of fraud is Freelancer.com themselves, not users since the money is 100% under the mercy and control of Freelancer.com ... and now they are performing actions that infringement our privacy by asking for irrelevant private information that has nothing to do with the platform safety and security! They are basically collecting private information to sell it for 3rd parties just as so many companies do.
