Contest Brief

We are a start-up looking for a long-term collaboration (with a possibility of a future full-time employment if desired) with a Lego enthusiast (or several Lego enthusiasts), who also happen to be talented illustrators proficient with vector-based graphics and/or are capable of designing an original Lego-based creation from scratch in Studio 2.0 or another similar editor.

You don't have to be both a seasoned MOC builder and illustrator. The main quality we are looking for is a passion and knowledge of the Lego inventory, its colors, visual culture and styles, as well as possibilities and limitations. First of all, you have to genuinely enjoy Lego :)

Your designs will be realized and distributed as professionally packed and marketed products made of original Lego pieces under our brand. Designed Minifigures will be printed with the same technology and quality as in Lego factories. You will also have an otherwise impossible luxury of using much more custom prints applied on ordinary pieces, thus allowing you to create something completely unique and not easily replicable.

Full MOC creations will be packed along with glossy instructions, brochures, stickers, and all required Lego pieces by our partners. Minifigures will be offered either bundled with MOC creations, or separately in plastic display boxes. The distribution will take place online before we are able to build a substantial portfolio of custom models and minifigures allowing us to open a brick-and-mortar store.

We are able to provide everything of the "technical" nature and are quite simply looking for builders and designers. Please understand that this is not a one time project. Ideally, we want to find keen and able people for long-term collaboration. Ideally, you will already have some sort of portfolio - be it minifigure templates or several finished MOCs with instruction. However, we welcome anybody to try their hand in creating something new (at least two different fully designed vector-based minifigure templates with stands and accesories or MOCs of 200 to 1200 elements will be requested. Please note that only existing Lego elements can be used and graphics are limited to exact colors currently in use by Lego). Any sent examples will remain your property and won't be used, replicated, or published outside of the scope necessary for this review.

Please note that your first few designs (outside of the samples mentioned above, which won't be used nor compensated) will be paid per piece. After we are able to establish a working relationship together, different kind of arrangement will be possible.

The contest is not really meant literally in this situation. We are mainly looking for new contacts and will be open to discussing terms with more than one contestant - hence the obvious lack of an immediate monetary prize.

Our first themes will be First and Second World War, early 20th century and inter-War period. Another, completely different theme, will be mini-skylines of existing cities.

Disclaimer: Process outlined above is fully legal, and original Lego patents are, at this time, expired. Anybody is free to create and distribute their own products or instructions using Lego pieces for monetary gain - as long as there are no breaches of intellectual property involved (such are: using Lego Group's and/or third party's design(s) without their approval, and/or intentional misleading of customers in regards to possible affiliation with the Lego Group.
